lubuntu - Installing Ubuntu onto USB - nothing happening? - Ask Ubuntu

i'm trying install lubuntu 16.10 run off usb stick in hp proliant microserver gen8. created lubuntu (2gb) usb stick using rufus , booted it, inserted 2nd usb stick (16gb) install onto, , started installation process. selected 16gb partition install onto (with ext3 partition), clicked ok on warnings selected option start installation. then.....nothing. clock span few minutes, disappeared. task manager showing 0% cpu usage. i've repeated twice , same thing happened both times. install seemed disappear without trace. how can tell happening installation process?

an ubuntu installation gets stuck in middle caused defect in target installation media, in case 16gb usb stick. in fact if try install ubuntu again on same drive, stuck again @ approximately same stage of installation process.

your situation complicated fact there usb 2 flash drives, either of causing problem. first step run lubuntu live session 2gb usb flash drive. if lubuntu live session runs without problems, rules out possible problem 2gb usb flash drive. next step try repeating lubuntu installation on different 16gb usb flash drive if have one.

i have posted another answer how full installation of ubuntu on usb flash drive may helpful, 4 bullet points @ end.
