boot - Install ubuntu on external SSD - Ask Ubuntu


i own macbook pro retina 15inch mid-2014 , install ubuntu (16.04 or 16.10) on external ssd drive bought (samsung t3)

i gave try following steps :

  • create live usb using unetbootin ubuntu gnome 16.10
  • boot liveusb , select "install ubuntu"

  • i created following partitions on external ssd:

    120gb exfat4 mount point "/"

    6gb swap

    rest file storage in exfat

  • i selected dev/sda (i.e. samsung external ssd) device bootloader installation

i succeeded in installing , booting. however, encountered following problems :

  • the macos x default bootloader had been deleted don't want to. point selecting external ssd device bootloader i.e. macbook boot on macos default when ssd not plugged. ideally, ssd bootable on macbook on other computers e.g. running windows examples. possible ?

  • the ubuntu system did not work e.g. keyboard keys controlling screen brightness did not work whereas when testing ubuntu liveusb (not installing system running usb) worked. don't that. why work when running ubuntu usb , not when installing on ssd?

  • the ubuntu system freezes if try run introductory ubuntu videos e.g. how launch applications. however, when not doing so, system seems run fine.

given problems encountered hereabove , will, here questions have :

  • is idea of installing ubuntu on ssd , boot computer impossible? have read several problems option notably problems nvidia drivers. notably http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/ speaks when using different booting options.

  • is fact macbook has 2 video cards problem ubuntu ? how ubuntu dealing ? how can control ?

short answer: yes

long answer

30 years ago take ms-dos 1.10 bootable floppy disc , use on 99% of personal computers out there.

today in linux (and windows) every boot drive custom configured different drivers for:

  • wifi (broadcom, intel, etc)
  • drives (hdd , ssd)
  • display drivers (ie intel, nvidia, amd)
  • monitors (different resolutions , refresh rates)
  • keyboards
  • mice
  • sound cards

so impossible have bootable usb external ssd works on computers.

windows - "-2146893807 NTE_NOT_FOUND" when repair certificate store - Super User

i try repair certificate store in windows 10 doing c:\windows\system32>certutil -store -user ‎330000019dba8d5dddb98062a900000000019d "personal" certutil: -store command failed: 0x80090011 (-2146893807 nte_not_found) certutil: object not found. i have double check mmc, certificate details serial number of certificate. still fail repair certificate store. can please help? i getting same error when trying export pfx. turns out had export c:\cert.pfx instead of cert.pfx (it trying export file cert store ( cert:\localmachine\my ).
