design - Why does Ubuntu use this horrible pattern of colors? - Ask Ubuntu

i believe ubuntu have more new users if used more beautiful , more neutral color pattern os x , other linux distributions. why canonical use these colors?

the reasoning can seen @ the ubuntu design site:

ubuntu core colours

the ubuntu colour palette has been created reflect spirit of our brand. orange community feel. white clean, fresh , light feel.

black used in versions of brandmark flexibility of application , print restrictions apply. can used body copy.

neutral colours

warm grey

for balance. addition of warm grey softens combination of orange , aubergine , provides bridge between two.

warm grey can used for; backgrounds, graphics, pictograms, dot patterns, charts , diagrams. can used large size text.

cool grey

for typography, particularly body copy. black can quite harsh in combination aubergine, grey delivers more balance while still being legible.

cool grey can used within charts , diagrams.

canonical core colours

the canonical colour palette has been created reflect spirit of our brand. aubergine smart, focussed feel. white clean, fresh , light feel.

the amount of colour use

our colour palette consists of orange, aubergine, white , warm grey. amount of colour use community , canonical collateral varies according emphasis of content.

at 1 end of scale, work dominated community, emphasis on fresh palette, use of white , orange, , warm grey balance. aubergine used highlight.

at other end of scale, work more focused on canonical, palette more refined , grounded, more emphasis on aubergine core colour. orange used highlight , use white , warm grey complement orange , aubergine.

whether them or not is, of course, you.
