boot - Both `systemd` and `upstart` (init) installed - which package(s) determents what's default? - Ask Ubuntu

i've been playing around (a bit much?) "unrecognized tasks" in aptitude, , have installed lots of extra-packages - able freely choose between different desktop-managers... @ point during this, apparently went using systemd using upstart/init ancestral process. both systemd , upstart installed however.

i know it's possible select other ancestor "advanced option"-entry in grub boot-menu. suppose edit /etc/grub.d - or grub command-line @ boot-time.

however, what/which package(s) - or possibly config-file - sets default ancestor-process either systemd or upstart/init - ie. among other things decide degfault entry in grub? it's (somewhat) separate actual installation, since both flavors can installed @ once...
