cpu - Why would a computer run very hot? - Super User

i have non-standard machine , seems run hot; cpu fan whirls loudly can hear in other room (the case open, because side got lost @ point).

i downloaded program called speedfan see temps , says:

gpu: 63c temp1: 36c temp2: 68c

i assume temp2 processor; if blow fan on while drops pretty rapidly.

is there reason runs hot? affect performance or in other way bad system?

in case matters, basics on system:

motherboard: gigabyte tech ep43-ud3l ram: 4gb graphics card: nvida geforce 9800 gt processor: intel(r) d cpu 3.00 ghz

edit

actually doing somethign on computer got temps gpu 67 , temp2: 72

there few reasons:

  • problem hardware itself
  • improper heat dissipation
  • dusty/dirty components
  • bad environment machine (ie, inside small confined space without ventilation)
  • improperly applied thermal paste, or may need new thermal paste.

among others can't think of right now.

the multiple temp values different readings. if press configure button in speedfan, can see readings from:
