xubuntu - Xscreensaver daemon is not running on display ":0.0" - Ask Ubuntu

first time poster, long time answer seeker.

i had install xubuntu 16.04.1 lts on lubuntu 16.10 due bugs , other issues (system crash constantly, display drivers decided quit working, , same thing opengl screensavers), , when open xscreensaver, after either powering on or rebooting computer, error:

xscreensaver daemon not seem running on display ":0.0" run daemon? ok cancel 

i click ok , screensaver run after configuring , leaving idle 5 minutes (that's eta every computer have screensavers turn on), after reboot, or power off, on, goes south. screensaver doesn't run, daemon never starts, etc. laptop running lubuntu 16.04 has same issue.

am missing steps?

compaq presario c700 (727us) intel pentium dual-core 2gb ddr2-667 intel gma x3100 120gb ssd lubuntu 16.04 kodi (lubuntu-desktop , kodi installed via ubuntu server) atheros wireless g 55wh , 47wh batteries 

desktop specs:

i'll post updates see if xubuntu does, in fact, run xscreensaver daemon after reboot.

update: xubuntu 16.04.1 lts after reboot run xscreensaver daemon. did in startup program see if ticked, , is. well. now, have figure out why laptop doesn't run program , if there is, in fact, startup program installed or available install via apt-get.

don't have xubuntu, installed lubuntu last week.which based on ubuntu , had same exact issue driving me nuts. tried commands possible , yet nothing happened until myself fixed it.

i started tinkering screensaver itself. so, clicked screensaver button/app, , when screensaver box animations came up, clicked on file option, drop down menu clicked kill daemon. went core applications in lx configuration & says screensaver - text field next empty - typed in xscreensaver , got fixed.

hopefully, might somehow.
