system installation - Getting Started - Ask Ubuntu

this question has answer here:

since vista no longer being supported, want replace ubuntu. had once before on different computer, i'm not sure how install ubuntu without deleting current operating system. use desktop lot not technician.

it possible install ubuntu in "side-by-side" mode when installing. because you're installing desktop version of ubuntu (just guessing here) prompted during installation how install ubuntu. 1 of options available installing along side vista (if not listed click more options). after past window take window looks this:

ubuntu installation along side windows

with top saying vista instead of windows 7. here can select how space windows vista have , how ubuntu have. here can continue installation normal. on next boot prompt operating system boot (and should everytime).

note: following instructions if have 1 hard drive/ssd only. if have multiple , you'd install ubuntu on 1 of them , keep windows on other different set of directions.
