Unity doesn't load, no Launcher, no Dash appears - Ask Ubuntu

when login, nothing happens.

i presented desktop wallpaper.

blank desktops suck

no dash, no launcher, nothing.

you need turn unity plugin on. problem pain in bottom because you've got no graphical method this. so:

  1. try open terminal ctrl+alt+t.
    may not work can try right clicking on desktop , selecting "open terminal here." otherwise, may need change "hard" terminal pressing ctrl+alt+f1 , log in.

  2. install compizconfig-settings-manager running

    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
  3. then run this:

    display=:0 ccsm &

    the first part tells terminal display want load on (otherwise won't have clue).

  4. if switched tty in step 1, switch graphical server pressing ctrl+alt+f7 (or ctrl+alt+f8 sometimes).
    there there should compizconfig settings manager waiting you.

  5. find unity plugin. enable it. asked "ubuntu unity plugin requires plugin opengl. enable ubuntu unity plugin / enable opengl"

  6. everything should spring life if doesn't, might have restart. can going terminal , running sudo reboot.
