xterm - Lowercase 's' doesn't work in Ubuntu terminal - Ask Ubuntu

this question has answer here:

anyone else had infuriating problem has been bugging me past hour. lowercase 's' , key alone doesn't ever printed on terminal or xterm. every other key works fine , 's' key words fine in other application not in terminal. googling says custom keyboard shortcut has been set s looking @ keyboard shortcuts in system -> keyboard -> custom shortcuts shows no such shortcut , cleared few had 's' in it. rebooting etc. didn't help. interesting thing if press ctrl + shift + v key paste lets me type 's' after can't enter s anymore. have used gconf-editor , dconf-editor , have reset ccsm settings , restarted unit, nothing working.

i tried installing other terminal emulators, same problem exists. more investigation found out problem occurs in bash shell. if run csh issue doesn't happen. happened remapped bash keys. along ctrl + shift + v if press ctrl + v lets me type s once in bash.

it duplicate of i can't type “b” when i'm in command line. had added line in /etc/inputrc "stty ....." . making 's' misbehave.
