12.04 - How to control Brightness - Ask Ubuntu

i didn't install myself, ubuntu 12.04 lts on acer 4741g.

i use fn+left/right change brightness, failed.

how can control brightness levels?

try this:

  1. open terminal (ctrl + alt + t).
  2. then type sudo nano /etc/default/grub. ask password. type in.
  3. around 11th line, there like: grub_cmdline_linux_default="quiet splash". change grub_cmdline_linux_default="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor"
  4. save file ctrl+o followed ctrl+x. run sudo update-grub in terminal.
  5. reboot , see if backlight adjustment works. if not, undo changes did above, invoking text editor in steps 1 , 2.

hope helps.
