i know how put show desktop icon in launcher, i'd have 1 in corner. the reason in launcher have "carefully" click on it, while if it's on corner, can more "aggressive". edit: i've tested of solutions in answers none accomplishes objective, maybe because didn't accurately: want, in corner,a show desktop icon(or not, don't care if instead have move pointer corner ) such when select it, desktop shown , can work in desktop, example copy file there, open terminal,etc. , then, can go back windows minimized same icon. @serg 's solution has 2 issues: 1) icon fixed, it's not in corner. 2) doesn't let me go windows minimized. @heynnema 's solution has major issue icon "shows" desktop, can't work on it: if right-click on empty space open terminal, space might not "empty" in sense if had open window there, right click options displayed 1 of window before being minimize. @gautamvashisht 's solution ...

ubuntu 16.04 lts, 64-bit. whenever ssh client -x, , launch program remotely, can see , works fine, have no icon in launcher. therefore, if minimize running remote program, there's no way back. alt+tab doesn't show either. how running programs back, and/or remote programs via ssh -x show in launcher? thanks.

i use ubuntu 14.04 , tried update (to latest distribution) encountered error. don't quite remember error message. reading tips forums, moved on cleaning old kernels using following method: dpkg --list | grep linux-image sudo apt-get purge linux-image-x.x.x.x-generic i purged of listed old kernels. when there 2 left, purge command ceased work. there no error message, nothing happened. system didn't crash. rebooted , since every time try start system, memtest86 v4.20 starts scanning. no matter how long let memtest test memory (up 5 hours), reboot ends same way - memtest starts on again. despite message: *****pass complete, no errors, press esc exit***** is system dead? have wipe data hdd , install system again? thanks , sorry if question asked - couldn't find 1 similar enough, namely when memtest started endless work after kernels purge.

my issue this: turned installed ubuntu 16.04 on 2009 macbook pro. having issue forcedeth drivers run ethernet port, don't work. can adhoc connection pass connectivity linux machine, won't signal plugged straight gateway. have tried numerous solutions drivers , thing still wont connect, i've moved on workarounds. my question if used usb ethernet dongle, use same drivers regular ethernet port? i'm not sure if valid workaround or instance of me not understanding how ubuntu deals hardware.
